LUCAS HAIMES

Nicole Lucas Haimes is an award-winning documentary director and television showrunner known for her compelling portrayals of characters who inhabit a range of worlds, from cutting edge science to unique subcultures, unconventional competitions, true crime and investigations. Her work has played major film festivals and been televised worldwide.

 

Filled with humor, heartbreak and hotdogs, THE GOOD, THE BAD, THE HUNGRY for ESPN Films 30 For 30 tracks the clash of three titans in the world of competitive eating. Exploring themes of nationalism and the quest for personal fulfillment, the film which Nicole directed and executive produced, paints an unexpected portrait of contemporary America. It premiered at the 2019 Tribeca Film Festival Sports Gala to critical acclaim, and was described by the Washington Post as “sharply drawn, surprisingly intimate...brilliant.”

 

Nicole’s first feature documentary, CHICKEN PEOPLE is a funny and uplifting look into the world of show chickens and the people who love them. A New York Times Critics Pick called "a fun and at times astonishing film," CHICKEN PEOPLE premiered at SXSW 2016 where it was nominated for the Gamechanger Award, and played the Nashville Film Festival, receiving a Grand Jury Prize nomination. Directed and executive produced by Nicole, it was theatrically released in the US and Australia, and streamed worldwide.

 

Nicole’s television non-fiction work includes PBS, CBS, and multiple projects for the ABC News flagship documentary series TURNING POINT. She produced DIAL H FOR HITCHCOCK for Universal Television, narrated by Kevin Spacey and broadcast globally. She was the showrunner for the PopSugar and Z Living collaboration CONQUERED, a 6-part documentary series hosted by Laura Ling profiling extraordinary stories of courage and triumph.

 

Previously, Nicole co-executive produced A&E’s CONFESSIONS OF THE DC SNIPER a special broadcast of AFTERMATH WITH WILLIAM SHATNER, and became the first journalist to secure an extended interview with killer Lee Boyd Malvo, a coup that sparked international news coverage and led to police re-examining the case. She senior produced THE AFTERMATH series for BIO.  Her digital work includes executive producing the Telly Award winning branded web series, A PARENT IS BORN and PopSugar’s CIRCLE OF MOMS.

 

Her Emmy-nominated PBS documentary CRACKING THE CODE tells the emotionally charged journey of families seeking medical solutions on the cutting edge of gene science. The documentary won the Prix Special du Festival, Montreal Film Festival and the Silver Screen Award, US International Film Festival. 

TED HAIMES

Ted Haimes began his career as a New York-based documentary cinematographer and producer.  Projects include the Emmy and Peabody Award-winning VIETNAM REQUIEM - the stories of seven Vietnam Vets serving hard time in US prisons, and the Emmy Nominated AMERICAN INQUISITION, which explores the shattered lives of men and women branded as Communist during the blacklist, despite having no political affiliations. Ted’s first films as director - profiles of artists, including Brice Marden, Aaron Siskind, and Duane Michals, as well as The Alvin Ailey School and The Big Apple Circus - have been broadcast worldwide and presented at international museums and film festivals, including New York, Venice, DC, and London. 

 

DECADE earned MTV its first Peabody Award, defining the attitude and style of MTV News. He broke new ground collaborating with artist MARILYN MINTER, shooting and directing 100 FOOD PORN, the first-ever tv commercial to advertise an artist’s exhibition.   AMERICAN GAMBIT, a chronicle of Chess Grandmaster Gary Kasparov's simultaneous challenge to the six strongest American Junior Masters, became one of the first films to screen in Moscow after the fall of the USSR. He continued shooting verité documentaries including THE CHILDSAVERS and MADNESS for PBS FRONTLINE.

 

Moving to Los Angeles in 1995, he continued making feature documentaries, including DIAL H FOR HITCHCOCK and PUNK!, as well as producing the Emmy-nominated HISTORY OF ROCK ‘n’ ROLL series.  His television and showrunner credits include THE LOCATOR, AFTERMATH WITH WILLIAM SHATNER, SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE, M*A*S*H: 30th ANNIVERSARY REUNION, THE 70’s: THE DECADE THAT CHANGED TELEVISION, MARRIED BY AMERICA, TEMPTATION ISLAND, and CONQUERED.
